January 3, 2026 - Anti-war Protest in Walnut Creek
Our first Saturday protest of 2026 took on extra urgency on January 3rd when we woke up to the news that Trump and his “Department of War” had surprise-invaded Venezuela and captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife, without going through Congress, under the guise of an international drug bust. At the afternoon presser, Trump stated that the attack (a strike that killed at least 80 people that we know of) was about Venezuelan oil, and that the U.S. will now be running Venezuela—to the visible surprise of his cabinet while on camera. He also claimed that U.S. oil companies had been briefed about and were onboard with his plan to profit from Venezuelan oil, resulting in denials by the heads of big oil.
In the face of this ongoing Constitutional crisis and harrowing news cycle, we can only resolve to keep going out every Saturday to connect with our community through signage, conversation, strategizing, music, and street theater. We know that working together, we can maintain community ties while putting pressure on our government to hold those accountable who have been trampling our democratic system for their own personal gain from day one in Office. Call your Rep and Senators and urge them to work together to end this chaos. Tell your friends and family members to do the same with the easy-to-use 5 Calls app. Thank you!
