Our Commitment to Nonviolence

As members of Indivisible Contra Costa, we are united in a shared commitment to nonviolence—not only as a moral imperative, but as a powerful, strategic tool for building lasting change. We reject all forms of political violence, intimidation, and hate. Our strength lies in peaceful resistance, collective action, and the belief that durable power grows from principled movements rooted in justice and inclusion.

Reimagining Democracy Through Nonviolence

Our commitment to nonviolence is grounded in our vision to remake our democracy—a democracy that was rigged from the start to serve the white and wealthy, but which we are working to reimagine and rebuild to serve everyone. We believe in the power of organizing over idolizing, and we hold ourselves and our leaders accountable through courageous, compassionate, and peaceful action.

Living Our Progressive Values

We embrace progressive values, including respect, equity, and dignity for all people. We strive to model these values in how we engage with one another and the world around us, especially when tensions are high and stakes are urgent.

Power in Partnership and Peaceful Action

We know that coordinated and collaborative action—such as our joint efforts with other Indivisible groups, local nonprofits, and community organizations—amplifies our voice and impact. From mobilizing for voting rights and climate justice to rallying against racism and xenophobia, we organize boldly and peacefully.

Strategy, Discipline, and Unity

To build a strong and strategic movement, we must remain focused, disciplined, and united in our peaceful methods. Nonviolence enables us to reach across lines of difference, grow our base, and advance policies that reflect the multiracial, inclusive democracy we are fighting for.

A Movement Built to Last

We’re in this for the long haul. With hope, solidarity, and a deep commitment to nonviolent action, we stand together to create a more just and democratic future
