No Kings 2 in Walnut Creek, October 18, 2025

As the U.S. federal government shutdown headed into its third week, more than 7,000,000 people participated in 2,700 protests worldwide for the second No Kings Day on October 18, 2025. At Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek, more than 7,800 people gathered to peacefully demonstrate for democratic principles, make speeches, hear our elected representatives, listen to live music, make No Kings-themed crafts, and then for some, head over to the Ygnacio Valley Rd. and Treat Blvd. pedestrian bridges for further honk & wave (and dance party) demonstrations. The humor, dedication, joy, and community-building were on full display and we thank all who participated and helped organize this historic event.

Kathryn Dunham-Hammer, founder of Indivisible Resisters Contra Costa summed up the importance of showing up, however way you can:

“Through our presence and signs we declared there are no kings in American and also that we love our democracy, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. All that we love about American ideals is under threat from the Trump administration. We have grassroots actions … every week all over Contra Costa County to remind people that the majority of us want to preserve our democracy. This is an American crisis. No one should have the power to turn our government into a weapon against our people.”

In an email dated October 20th, Indivisible Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin called No Kings 2 “the largest single-day peaceful protest in American history.” To show how Indivisible mass mobilization events have grown this year, Levin provided the numbers:
April, Hands Off: 3 million at 1,300 events
June, No Kings: 5 million at 2,100 events
October, No Kings: 7 million people at 2,700 events
